When is check-in and check-out?

Check-out is before 10:00 and we ask that guests make sure that they check out by this time to allow us to start cleaning the rooms for the next guests. After the rooms have been cleaned and prepared for new guests you can check in. Generally, the earliest time you can check in is 14:00, however, if you arrive before this you are welcome to leave your luggage in the office until check in time (office open from 08:00 weekdays, 09:00 weekends). Please note that if arriving before this time and wanting to check straight into the room, you will need to book for the previous night, otherwise you will have to wait until 14:00 to check in.

What are reception opening hours?

Our Monday to Friday opening hours are 08:00 to 22:30. On Saturday and Sunday our opening hours are 09:00 to 22:30. If your arrival is after hours please let us know your estimated time of arrival and we will make suitable arrangements.

Is there a curfew?

We have no curfew (note our office hours) and you may exit and enter the building at any time. You will have a key for your room and a code for the front. We also have a staff member on site 24 hours per day.

What is your reservation policy?

You must supply a credit card number to secure your reservation .You can pay either in cash or by card when you check-in at the hostel. We accept Visa and Mastercard, but do not accept AMEX.

What is your cancellation/modification Policy?

We have a 48 hour cancellation policy. Cancellations or modifications with less than 48 hours notice will result in a charge of one night’s accommodation.

What ID is required at check-in?

You must provide either a valid international passport or Australian driver’s licence at check-in. There are no exceptions to this.

My arrival time is late at night or in the early morning, how do I book?

Please note that if you arriving after midnight you need to book for that night. For example, if you are arriving at 2am on the 25th, you would need to book for the night of the 24th to be able to check in straight away.

Do you have free parking?

We have 4 free off-street parking spots, however these are only available on a first-come, first-served basis. Street parking is also available, which is free for 2 hours during the day and after 17:00.

Do you provide internet access?

Yes, there is free WiFi access in certain areas of the hostel. It can be slow at times due to heavy load from our guests, however paid WiFi and computer access is also available.

Do you give refunds?

We do not give refunds on paid accommodation under any circumstances, Think carefully before paying for your nights as once you have paid we will NOT refund any unused portion, and we cannot transfer your credit to another guest.

What is your policy on visitors?

No visitors are allowed in the Hostel after 22:00. Visitors need to register in the office on arrival.

Where can I keep my belongings?

There is plenty of storage in all room types. Generally in the dorms, non-valuables can be stored either under the bed, or in cupboards or drawers provided. Valuables can be stored in the lockers which are in each dorm. To secure the locker you must supply your own padlock (these can be purchased onsite for $5).

The Witch’s Hat takes no responsibility for any items lost, stolen or damaged while on site.

What is your quiet policy?

We have a quiet policy after 22:30, please keep any noise to a minimum after this time.

I am checking out before the office is open, how do I return the room key?

Just drop your key in the box outside reception.

Is there a charge for a lost room key?

We ask all keys to be left at the front desk or in the key box when checking out. Lost keys will incur a $20 charge.

I am looking for a long term stay, are you suitable?

Whilst we can offer long-term stays, our sister hostel, Shannon House, is designed with long-term guests in mind and is much more suitable.

Are there any age restrictions?

Anyone under 18 is not permitted without being accompanied by an adult. Guests under 18 years of age cannot sleep in a dorm unless the whole dorm is booked out and they are accompanied by an adult.

Do I need to bring my own sleeping bag?

Bed linen is provided by the hostel and we do not permit the use of sleeping bags as this can cause pests such as bed bugs to spread easily.

Can you guarantee that I get a bottom bunk?

No, we cannot guarantee you a bottom bunk.

What are your expectations for guests staying in dorms?

Dorm rooms are sleeping quarters where you stay with others who may come from any location. We expect our guests staying in dorm rooms to abide by the following list of rules for the well-being of each guest.

  • Guests can ONLY use their beds. Do not change beds without permission from reception. Do not mess up the clean sheets on other ebds.
  • All dorm guests should respect the privacy and property of others.
  • Keep your belongings neat and tidy in the space allocated to you.
  • Each guest may use only one locker.
  • Please wear shoes within the hostel and in your room for sanitary and hygiene purposes.
  • Quiet hours begin at 22:30. Please keep noise to a minimum after this time out of respect for other guests.
  • Discuss with your roommates when to turn the lights off.
  • Be patient with snoring guests. They cannot help it. You are paying for a bed, not the whole room. Possible solutions to this issue are to wear earplugs or ask reception if you can change to a different room.

Please turn down your headphones, and do not take phone calls inside your room.
